A 3- or 4-inch swimbait, such as a YUM Pulse or Gene Larew Long John Minnow, fished on a jighead and swam near the bottom or even hopped down a slope, works wonderfully for for redfish or trout that are holding tight to the bottom
All you need is a fly rod designated for a #4, 5, 6, or 7- weight line ( I use a 5 weight), a corresponding weight forward floating line, a fly reel which balances with this, a 9-foot leader, and a jiggy
A great example of a 'talk the talk' reel
I've caught so many big trout on a yellow-and-black version that I couldn't possibly count them all
After you make your cut, use sandpaper to smooth out the edges and roughen up the surface
With very few anglers on the lake, the carp seemed willing enough to have a munch, and I didnt have to wait long for one to put a healthy-looking curve in the rod
